Twill doublet

This is our basic twill doublet - perfect for wedding parties or for those on a budget. The doublet features a full line of grommets up the front.

The twill doublet is lined and the price is $95, made to your measurements.

The Porthos doublet is a dashing example of the Cavalier Period. The curved slashes in the seams open to reveal the shirt you can wear beneath the doublet. The seams are trimmed with velvet ribbon. The doublet is fitted in at a high waist and extends into peplum tabs that are also trimmed with velvet ribbon. This doublet can be made in either leather or fabric (velveteen, corduroy, or faux suede are good choices.) The sleeves are fabric for easier mobility. The neckline is open with a stand collar. The entire doublet is fully lined.

The Porthos pants are very full from the waist and can be gathered into a cuff below the knee or, if boots will be worn, a spandex stirrup to tuck the pants easily into your boots. The pants can also be made out of either leather or fabric.

“Silver” hardware can be added at the front opening of the doublet and down the side seams of the pants.

The Othello Doublet
is made with 2-3 complementary brocades and contrasting trim. The division of panels on the front and back are diagonal to create a slim, dynamic line. The waist seam is slightly below the natural waist and joins to a curved peplum which is trimmed with cording. The collar of the doublet is a 1 ¼” stand collar. The ruff is not included with this package, but may be purchased separately. There are winged epaulettes with contrasting trim. The sleeve is full through the cap, tapering to the wrist. It is slashed down the center and joined with decorative buttons, giving the appearance of the false shirt sleeves puffed between the buttons and ending in a short ruffle over the hand. Chevrons of trim point to the buttons.

Optional Peascod Belly
The Othello doublet can be shaped into a sturdy peascod belly if desired. Whether shaped or not, the doublet is interfaced and lined.

The Othello Pumpkin breeches
are built on a semi-fitted cannion base upon which the pumpkin pants are attached. The pumpkin pants have a soft inner fabric of lightweight damask that puffs through the brocade panes of the outer fabric. The panes are trimmed in contrasting cording. Although not a true fly--the pants open in the front. The opening is hidden behind a pane or an optional codpiece.
The cannions end below the knee or can be extended into a knit stirrup to keep them in place if you plan to wear boots. The pumpkin breeches end mid-thigh allowing a large amount of the cannions to show.

The Leather Iago Doublet
(Please note: This outfit can be made out of brocade fabric instead of leather.)

The leather Iago Doublet is fitted through the body with a waist seam slightly lower than the natural waist. Peplum tabs are joined into the waist seam and are trimmed with contrast cording. Each side of the front and back is divided in two with the textured leather chevroned on the bias at the center. The joining seam is trimmed with brocade trim. The sleeves of this doublet are detachable leather panels and are held together with grommets and leather cording. Puffs of the under sleeves pull through between the leather panels. These under sleeves can be either fake shirt sleeves or an actual shirt (available separately on "shirts" page) can be worn under the doublet. The collar of the doublet is a 1 ¼” stand collar. The neck ruff is not included by may be purchased separately. There are winged epaulettes of contrasting fabric and trim. The center front opening of the doublet is flush with a hidden snap or hook placket.

Iago Pumpkin breeches
The breeches are built on a semi-fitted cannion base upon which the pumpkin pants are attached. The pumpkin pants have a soft inner fabric of lightweight damask that puffs through the leather panes of the outer fabric. The panes are trimmed in contrasting cording. The pumpkin pants end above the knee with the cannions extending to just below the knee. A close-fitting knit stirrup can be added for the lower leg to help keep them in place if you plan to wear boots.

A codpiece of leather or brocade is optional and can be built as modest or exaggerated as you choose.

Elastic suspenders can be added to the pants for $6.50.

The Romeo doublet
This leather Renaissance doublet was inspired by the self-portrait of Albrecht Durer dated 1498.

A leather Elizabethan Doublet

It is an ideal costume for the Early Italian and German Renaissance. It is fitted through the body with a waist seam slightly below the natural waist with a continuous peplum from that seam. The sleeves are fitted at the shoulder and fuller above the elbow. There is an opening for the elbow of the shirt (available separately on the shirts page) to puff out. The lower sleeves are fitted and trimmed with contrasting leather trim. This doublet is interfaced and fully lined. The most suitable colors are bold, contrasting solid colors. Leather is the ideal fabric for this doublet but for a more common look it could be made in a solid cotton brocade.
