This bodice is a back lacing skirted bodice with lots of trims (gold, silver, white or black loop braid is available). It has attached bottom-open sleeves which will reveal your chemise, and laces at the forearm through a fitted,. grommeted cuff. you may pull your arms out of the sleeves for a draped sleeve look.

The bodices laces at the back through corset-grade grommets and the skirting is also open in the back. The skirting is firmly pleated into the bodice waistband.

The shoulders feature loope picadills trimmed with loop braid cording.

The front of the bodice features a row of decorative buttons and more trim. We have listed a few pricing options below. Other fabrics are available - please email us for a custom fabric price estimate.

The Rochefort Bodice


This design was sent in to us by customer Claire, pictured opposite. She sent us a sketch of her idea for a bodice and we brought it to life! This is the Rochefort Bodice, loosley based on the doublet worn by Michael Wincott as Captain Rochefort from The Three Musketeers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Hunting Frock

The Very Merry Seamstress offers customized pirate attire for women, frock coats and waistcoats for men and women and customized Gypsy garb (just let us know what you want, and we can make it)

The Hunting frock features a saucy low-cut, front lacing full-circle skirted "coat," with contrasting trim at the wide cuffs, pullback corners at the front base of the skirting, and your choice of either silver or gold tone jeweled buttons in the back, at the cuffs and at the turnbacks. The design is meant to be worn with a corset or bodice underneath to smooth the silhouette, and with a blouse or partlet. With that in mind, sleeves are, by default, unlined to help keep you cooler with all these layers.

The hunting frock laces at the front through grommets and may be lavishly timmed or completely unadorned. The cost depends on fabric types and amount and cost of trimmings you desire. We offer basic fabric and trimming prices below, but we can add more/different trims for an additional price. We can also happily line your skirting and sleeves for you - just ask for a custom price estimate and we'll be happy to oblige. :-)

The Cotton Velvet and Soutache Frock Coat

This elaborate frock coat is wonderful for Pirate reenactments or weddings - for men who want only the biggest, baddest cuffs, this is the frock coat for you. This is NOT a costume quality garment - it is a sturdy, quality heirloom garment that you can wear for years to come.

The velvet and soutache Frock Coat is a full length frock coat made from lush, rich cotton velvet, available in a multitude of colors, lined with crepe-back satin and exquisitely trimmed with either gold or silver soutache braid, or black or white loop braid. Trim designs and pattern can be customized - as pictured or with other patterns (email us for details)

We trim the coat with your choice of black, gold or silver-tone buttons from our exclusive stash of fabulous shank buttons (we can suply pictures or descriptions for you)

This fabulous frock coat features three full godets - one at each seam (back and both sides) to add an amazingly full skirting.

The frock coat is not a tightly fitted garment, but is meant to be worn a bit looser than the frock bodice (above). We can customize your garment to be very simple or extremely extravagant. Women's Pirate Bodices with turnbacks
Fully Reversible!

We're so pleased to offer this extremely versatile and summertime-cool, sleeveless Pirate Bodice. It's fully reversible, so you get two bodices for the price of one. It also features two lacing points - one in the front and one in the back, for an extremely size-friendly garment. You will need to purchase two brooches or decorative pins (not included) to hold back your turnbacks, since sewing a permanent button in place will make it so the garment is no longer reversible. Garment is available in twill, or damask/dupioni.
