E-Beth is staying all weekend with her Uma. Will I survive the entire weekend? I hope so. Uma is very excited and has planned all sorts of grandchild-spoiling activities. I can be guaranteed a severe case of Uma-tude by Monday. ("No, Elizabeth, you may not have Choco-choco-boom-booms for breakfast, lunch OR dinner.")
This weekend will include load-in of the last batch of drywall to finally finish the upstairs. For those not in "the know," the upstairs was gutted last August and the anticipated completion date was scheduled for November 1.
That's November 1 of LAST year. So, nearly one year later, the upstairs will finally be completed. You have no idea the joy we feel that remodeling projects will be finished for at least a few months.
To make load-in fun and interesting, the hallway leading upstairs is too narrow to fit a sheet of drywall of ANY length up it, so this day-long event will involve the rental of a scaffolding, popping the front upstairs windows out of their sockets, cutting each slab of drywall in half, and hauling each one up the scaffolding, through the window-hole, into the upstairs front room.
BUT - Hallways will be completed. Closets will be completed (and there WILL FINALLY BE closets - because folks who built houses in 1850 apparently did not need closets). Spare bedrooms will be completed and The Office/Video-Gaming Arena will be completed. Will the combination of WORK and GAMING in the same area be a recipe for disaster? We'll soon find out!
I've been on a book-buying frenzy lately - all historic costuming reference for my other project (because I don't have enough going on already). I've found a company that offers hand embroidery for the 18th c. line of clothing. I'll be cutting the fabric within the next month or so to ship to them, so they can provide me with samples for approval. I'm extremely excited about this one. I'm going to have far too much fun playing with these designs to call it "work."
I need to finalize plans on upcoming photo shoots (end of summer and an autumn one too) or invest in a decent camera. I also need to find a female model who will work for free garb and lives in the Rochester area (or will travel). Interested parties should contact me.
Oh - and most importantly: SATURDAY EVENING IS A DATE NIGHT! DaVinci Code, movie theatre popcorn, dinner involving some type of buttery seafood, followed by a mocha java and a trip to the bookstore and lots of snuggly quality time with the Briguy!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Random fact that I'm thrilled to know:
Back in the 1800s they didn't build closets because taxes were done by how many rooms you had in your home, and closets counted as rooms.
Armoires and wardrobes = less taxes. And who would pass that up?

From the Merry One: We moved in and there was only one cheesy, tiny little closet that was sort of stuffed into a corner of the living room. That was the ONLY closet in this 11-room house! (4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, LR, kitchen, sunroom, study/landing upstairs and one big room with no windows that I assume served as their storage area)
All in all, I love the house. It's got personality and sloping plank floors. Who could ask for anything more?
